The Mother's Day Caddis hatch is in full swing on the Crooked River below Bowman Dam — olive caddis are covering the water from mid-morning through afternoon, and wild rainbows are rising throughout the canyon. Water temps are a comfortable 55°F and visibility is excellent in the prime fishing section.

The Salmonfly hatch is in full stride on the Lower Deschutes from Trout Creek through Maupin — with flows at 3,830 CFS and water temps at 61°F, the big bugs are flying and Central Oregon redside rainbows are crushing dry flies. Do not miss this window.
Crooked River Report – May 12, 2026: Elevated Flows from Irrigation Season, Nymphing Still Productive Below Bowman Dam
The Crooked River below Bowman Dam is running at 1,120 CFS with irrigation season in full swing — elevated and slightly off-color, but trout are still active in softer water along the banks. Nymphing with Zebra Midges, Pheasant Tails, and Copper Johns remains the most productive approach.
Deschutes River Report – May 12, 2026: Salmonfly Hatch Hits Full Stride from Maupin to Warm Springs
The Salmonfly hatch is in full swing on the Lower Deschutes from Trout Creek through Maupin, with the hatch front pushing toward Warm Springs today. Flow is 3,860 CFS at 60°F — prime conditions for big dry fly action. Break out your Chubby Chernobyls and Stimulators.
Crooked River Report – May 11, 2026: Mother's Day Caddis Hatch Peaks Near Bowman Dam
The Mother's Day Caddis hatch is peaking on the Crooked River below Bowman Dam — bugs are coming off in massive numbers and trout are actively feeding subsurface. Water is crystal clear at 55°F and olive caddis patterns are the ticket. This is one of Central Oregon's most exciting weeks to be on the water.
Lower Deschutes River Report – May 11, 2026: Salmonfly Hatch Ignites as Flows Run Elevated
The Lower Deschutes salmonfly hatch is officially on — egg layers spotted, caddis thick, and trout are fired up. Flows are elevated at 3,920 CFS at Moody with water running off-color, so target soft bank edges with big attractor dries and heavy nymphs. Get out this week before a cold front can slow things down.
Caddis Hatch Building on the Crooked River — May 10, 2026
The Crooked River's tailwater fishery is approaching prime caddis season with flows at 1,260 cfs and water temps at a comfortable 55°F. Zebra Midges and Pheasant Tail Nymphs are the consistent producers, and the late-afternoon caddis hatch is starting to build — the next two weeks could be exceptional.
